3 Steps To Soft Lips AKA A Cure for Crusty Flaky Dry Lips

Hi Chicsters today’s post is all about lips. Im sharing an antidote to the annual malignment they undergo during winter. A three-step solution to a problem that plagues all of us and that is dry crusty flaky lips.

Its that time of year again yay!! between bone chilling temps -30 in some places (we feel your pain Minnesota) and the artificial heating indoors our skin tends to get dry. With more vulnerable bits of skin taking the hit harder than others.

If you’ve struggled with dry lips you will be glad to know that these 3 steps work and will have your lips soft & supple in no time.

  • The first step with almost anything that has to do with skin is to drink more water. This case is no exception, your skin gets drier in the winter so the best way to naturally make up for this shortfall is to stay as hydrated as possible (this may include adding in electrolytes).
    • Because the skin is such a large organ when additional hydration is required to combat the dry air and its not available your skin takes a hit! On a side note, you might also want to invest in a humidifier. Now before you roll your eyes at me lets get into the juicy stuff.
  • The second step is to get rid of dry flaking skin now there are several ways you can do this the most kosher method is to purchase a lip scrub. You can also DIY a lip scrub yourself (should I do a post on this?).
    • Another method I recently heard of is to shave your lips (with these razors) It sounds crazy but the official name for it is Dermaplaning. However personally what I do is I brush my lips YES you heard that’s right with an old toothbrush! In both instances, I REPEAT YOUR LIPS MUST BE HYDRATED!!

No matter how you choose to get rid of the dry crusty flaky skin it has to go in order for the product from the next step to penetrate the healthy skin beneath.

  • Now if you suffer from having chronic dry lips the dry crusty flaky kind then you will need the heavy hitters for the last step . You’ve probably used the stuff at the drug store to no avail. You will need products specially formulated to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture, products that have ingredients like vitamin c, hyaluronic acid and hydrating oils like jojoba oil that are rich and nourishing.

I find its best to use these products at night as well because that is when cell repair occurs. Consistency is king with this routine however if you maintain it you will probably never have dry crusty flaky Lips again.

Curious what remedy have you tried to combat dry lips?

This was a great read. I love the Laneige sleep mask. I will be trying the Savor product as a recommendation from this blog and I also saw Milk+Honey from Bloomingdales too that I’m going to try!
